Steam Train Dublin to Wexford (in the rain) – June 2010
Here’s a video clip on the Steam Train from Dublin to Enniscorthy. Recorded in June 2010. The rain was extremely heavy that day. If you look closely, you will see a stream of rain falling from the train carriage in front. This rain stream was falling direct on to the camera lens. The Sony camera I was using to take this video clip got water damaged. You can see at the end of the video, the water damage to the lense. I ended up having to get the camera repaired and had to pay for a new lens. Still, it was a very good day and we were looked after extremely well by Railway Preservation Society of Ireland!
Panasonic DMC GF1 mini review with 14-45 mm lens
I just got my new Panasonic DMC-GF1 camera with the 14-45 mm lens yesterday. It is a large sensor micro 4/3s camera in an extremely small body. The first 2 clips of our cat show that even with the 14-45 mm lens you can get a good shallow depth of field while taking video. The next clip is of me indoor rock climbing. The wall is very over hanging so the light there is very poor. The video is shown in split screen with one half showing the video from the GF1 and the other half from my ZS3 point and shoot. The ZS3 is no slouch for video but can you tell which side is which? The last few clips show how easy it is to use the auto focus to change from a shallow depth of field to a wide DOF All it takes is a simple half press of the shutter button to re-auto focus. So far I love the GF1 but it is not a cheap camera at $900 for the body and 1 lens. The batteries are also expensive at $54 and you can not use any other brand besides Panasonic. I tested and confirmed this yesterday.

Solar Canon Camera Charger
Charge your Canon camera battery from a solar panel while out on expedition. More detailed information on providing solar power to digital cameras is at Modern Outpost… www.modernoutpost.com Putting together a solar charger for your canon camera is easy when you have the right parts. This video shows how to build a solar power system for most dslr battery packs. Equipment used includes… powerfilm rollable solar panel Voltaic Generator multi-voltage lithium battery pack Solar panel input cable for the Voltaic DC battery charger for your Canon The Voltaic Generator battery pack was set to its 12-20V range, and it auto-selects the voltage within this range that supports charge flowing to the load (the battery charger in this case). For complete information on creating a portable solar power system for your electronics, including digital cameras, camcorders, laptops, ipods, satellite phones, AA batteries, and more, the place to go is Modern Outpost. http Thanks for watching!
What photographic film should I buy if I’m shooting indoors using tungsten lighting?
I am soon to be doing a photographic shoot. I will be using ‘hot lights’ (tungsten lighting not flash). I know that if I just use normal daylight film, my photos will have a bad cast to them. But I am unsure what film and what ASA/ISO to use. Can you recommend any tungsten-balanced film that’s on the market? I have also heard that you can get a filter to put over your camera lens that helps (I have a Hasselblad 500CM). Any tips, advice and recommendations would be very helpful
What are the BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Rolls-Royce of SLR Cameras?
I think that:
the BMW of SLR Cameras is Nikon
the Mercedes-Benz of SLR Cameras is Canon
the Roll-Royce of SLR Cameras is Hasselblad
