Wedding Photography Can Be A Pricey Affair

Run into any bride or groom after their wedding and chances are they will have a horror story about their photography. Wedding photography, through the years, has picked up a bad rap and has become the Achilles heal of wedding planning.

One of the main reasons for the bad rap is the high cost. Wedding photography is such an important part of the wedding planning process because it is the only way a bride and groom will be able to look back on one of the most important days of their lives. Unfortunately, many photographers have exploited this reality and jacked up their prices. But there are a few ways to cut your costs when it comes to wedding photography.

For one, know the difference between a professional photographer and a wedding photographer. The difference is really nothing. The only thing is that the person going by the title of wedding photographer usually charges more. The professional photographer probably does weddings and a whole bunch of other types of work. In most cases, he or she is just as good, but will be a lot cheaper. In some cases a professional photographer, because he or she is involved with other types of work, may have a creative flair that a standard wedding photographer may not have.

Wedding photography can get expensive, even if you find someone who is willing to do it for a reasonable price. In most cases, you are still going to pay at least $500 to $1,000 for them to show up. This is before ordering prints. Many photographers have even higher charges than that. But if you plan your event and are financially prepared for the expense of a wedding photographer, then you will likely be happy with the final outcome.

Things to look at when considering a wedding photographer are not only references, but also personality. Some photographers have really good social skills and can get difficult shots taken without disrupting situations or irritating anyone involved. This is key. Those photographers who are uptight and appear to be in a hurry, or are constantly hassling guests for a picture are the ones to avoid. You can usually tell this in a person’s personality right away. No matter how great of photos this person may shoot, their outlook can ruin other aspects of your wedding.

Another thing to consider when it comes to wedding photography is if you have a relative who has done some wedding photography or does other photography work, consider hiring them. Many times this familiar face will have easy access to photos because people see him or her as a part of the wedding, not just as a photographer. And if they are a trustworthy relative, then they may be the best for the budget and may still be able to turn out some great shots.

When choosing a wedding photographer please always remember to use common sense. Choose a package that is right for you. Do not get involved with purchasing packages that are not right for you.

Find Out the Latest Trend in Wedding Photography

The newest trend in wedding photography is online photography galleries of your wedding.  The reason these photography galleries are becoming so popular is because of the simplicity of them.  Never heard of an online photography gallery for your wedding?  It works like this: after your wedding, your photographer will give you a website to go to with a password and login name.  You will be able to access all of your wedding photos on this website.  You will then be able to hand out the login and password on your wedding photography gallery to all your friends and family, so they can pick the photos they want.  This takes the work of the bride to a minimum.  All she needs to do is send out a link to the photography gallery for her wedding with the sign in information in a bulk email and her work is done.  All she has to do is choose photos for her album and individual pictures she wants.

Often in wedding photography galleries, the order information will be listed somewhere on the site and orders can be taken right online, without having to stress the newlyweds over how much what size photo costs and how to order it.  It’s a great way for friends and family to get the photos they want in a timely manner.  Keep in mind, though, that most of these photography galleries are only online for a limited time, so make sure your photographer is willing to give you a disc or hard proofs of your photos after that time or you may lose them.

While there are plenty of pros to choosing photography galleries for your wedding, there can be many cons as well.  Many people like to have their proofs to look at.  Often, people feel that a proof serves as a better representation of how the photo will actually look when you receive it.  Having proofs in a photography gallery is an efficient way to utilize easy access and convenience, but it also misleads some people as to how the photos will actually look.  Since most photographers work with digital cameras, however, it’s usually a pretty good chance that the photos will be sharp and crisp.

Another type of photography gallery that is commonly being used in weddings now is a running slideshow, or photo montage of the couple in all stages of life.  Usually, the photo gallery will be put to music and it is the DJ’s responsibility to put those together.  These types of photo galleries can be a lot of fun for the guests and are usually shown just before dinner is served.

While the timing of your photo gallery or photo montage is up to you, these can offer a valuable insight into what type of families you and your new spouse have, what your interests are and how you two are as a couple.  Do you travel?  Have you been to some really fun, fabulous events that you want all your wedding guests to know about?  Then a photography gallery for your wedding is the way to go.

You can put it against all kinds of music, but try to choose your favorite songs, as well as some music that most of your guests will enjoy, as well.

Wedding Photography Basics

Everybody wants to have wonderful pictures of their wedding that they can cherish forever. While most people get great photos and enjoy them, there are some people whose pictures just seem to come out poorly. They paid a lot of money, and got substandard pictures in return.
Many soon-to-be-wed couples ask, “What went wrong with their photos, and how can I avoid that happening to me?”

Thankfully, there are a few very simple things that you can do to help ensure that your wedding photos come out as the beautiful keepsakes that they are supposed to be.

One of the first things you want to do is to scope out photo areas. Wherever you are thinking about getting married, see what kinds of picturesque spots you can take advantage of. If they only have one or two, ask yourself if you are going to be happy with those. Many places that specialize in weddings have many places where you can take pictures, so this may not be an issue, but it is something you want to think about ahead of time.

When you are looking at these spots, try to arrive around the time when you are going to be having the pictures taken. Make sure the lighting is going to be flattering to the pictures. If it is too dark, or too bright, the pictures won’t come out properly. This is not something you want to find out during the wedding or after the photos are printed.

Another thing that really cannot be stressed enough is to get a professional photographer to take the pictures. It may be tempting to let a friend or family member who has a nice camera take the pictures, but this really isn’t a good idea no matter how you look at it.

There are many things that can ruin photos if they are not taken into account. Also, if they do not bring the right equipment, a lot of great photo opportunities may be missed. Do you really want to risk ruining your special day by not having good photos? The money you may be saving by going this route is not worth it. If someone wants to photograph your wedding, let them do so along with a professional.

When you are choosing a photographer, look at their portfolio. It should be extensive, and they should be able to provide a wide selection of fine photos for you to look at. Make sure that they specialize in wedding photography, both indoors and out.

Alongside the clarity, lighting, and colors of their photos, you also want to check for creativity. It is easy to take the normal pictures of the bride and groom standing side by side, but a great photographer can think up many poses and themes. Reflections off mirrors, ponds, and many other things can be used to make an unusual effect.

Changing the colors of a photo can make a striking portrait as well. Making an entire picture black and white except some key element such as flowers for a full body show, or the eyes for a close up can make a picture that you will never tire of.

Find a photographer who has an impressive portfolio, experience in the field, and that you are comfortable with. Also, make sure you have some great photo spots available to you. By doing these simple things, you are more likely to have wedding photos that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

Wedding Photography and the Story of Your Day

It sounds like a simple task to take photos of that special day. However, more than you realise, there are a multitude of things to think about regarding your wedding photography. You will have only one chance, so make sure the photographer you hire is professional.

One of the worst mistakes you could make would be to get a family member or close friend to be the wedding photographer. Even with proper equipment it is not easy to record the day’s events. There are stories of Uncles not pressing the right button and would be happy couples relying on other relatives or friends for that elusive shot. Not ideal I’m sure you will agree.

It may be now that we should have decided that we may be far better off employing the services of a professional wedding photgrapher to capture the day. Again we need to be careful and bear some important points in mind. The first is who we will employ and what he or she will look like. In an ideal world, you will want somebody who is smart, professional and will blend in with guests. First impressions count so when meeting prospective photographers expect them to be smart and well presented, they should be as they are trying to win your business. You also want someone who you can relate to and feel comfortable with as they will be able to draw the best out of you and your guests. When viewing wedding photo samples, you may be advised to see an album in its entirety, rather than samples across various weddings. Seeing a whole album will give you a far better feel for quality and consistency of work that the best shots pulled out of several different ones.

Many photographers may approach the day as only another wedding with lacklustre images. Others may have more of an artistic flair and will capture the day as a whole, attempting to produce a narrative. When looking back at photographs it is may be the little things like getting ready that really bring the memories flooding back so it’s not just the photos outside the church that may be important. Think about the story and not just single images for something contemporary.

Wedding photography should not be left to chance, try to find a photographer who will record your special day in a way that you will enjoy for years.
