Medium format FILM photography question?

Any past or present users of “MF” cameras? What camera(s) do you (or did you) use? What did you like about it? What did you dislike about it? I am getting back into MF because it is so insanely inexpensive these days – I can’t resist – so I want to hear from others about their experiences. Right now I’m considering a used Mamiya RZ67 or some 6000 series Rolleiflexes or Hasselblad (my brother in law has one – if he hasn’t sold it yet). Thanks!!!
Film maker, UK: I already know that – I started with a Rolleiflex 2.8F TLR when I was 12 years old!!! I’m more interested in personal experience in regards to durability, ergonomics, and what the users of the camera liked or disliked about the cameras – thanks.
I can see that it is necessary to add this information: I have won awards for my photography and that Rolleiflex TLR that I used? That was 43 years ago. Please comment on actual camera usage – I know that it is my skills that will make (or not make) great images – thanks.

Are these lenses good?

I’m planning to buy a dslr camera (Since I learned photography a year ago, I was just borrowing my uncle’s Canon 1ds mk ii) and my uncle suggested I buy digital Medium Format instead of 35mm or crop-sensor bodies because of the quality and resolution.

After researching, I think like Hasselblad better than Mamiya, since their quality looks better and the price is higher (often you get what you pay for) and I want a manual focus and mechanical one.
So I’m planning to buy the 503cw and then a CFV 16 megpixel back. I don’t want the phaseone p45 and the 39 mp cf hasselblad back since I want square format and I would rather buy some lenses with the money I would save.

Now to the main question…

I read about these ZV lenses from Zeiss. Theyre for the v series bodies and I think they are like the CF lenses but in a better luxurious casing.
Just look! They look really nice compared to the black CF lenses.

Have any one of you tested these lenses?

And yes, i know, they really look immaculate don’t they and I admit I’m kinda biased towards those shiny metal barrels over image quality hahaha.

Tell me what are your thoughts.
Should I choose those over the CF lenses?

BTW, they come in 50, 120, and 180 focal lengths.
(I don’t care about not having a normal lens (80mm) because
I mainly shoot landscapes, architecture, food photography, and portraits and the 120 and 180 will cover my portrait needs.

Are Nikons and Canons capable?

Are they just toys compared to a Hasselblad Medium Format Modular 503CW Camera with a German-made Carl Zeiss Optical Lens and a Phaseone 60 megapixel Digital Camera Back?
Seamless, your claim that the Leica is second rate to its competitors is absolutely ridiculous,

Let’s compare it to the Nikon d2xs which was released about the same time as the M8.

Nikon d2xs sensor: 1.5x crop
Leica M8 sensor: 1.3x crop

Body quality: No question. Leica rules.

Lens compatibility:
D2xs: uses Nikkor lenses
Leica m8: uses Leica lenses.

Leica Lenses are much more highly regarded than Nikkor lenses.
Let’s see you use a Leica lens in your Nikon.

Anti-alias filter:
Leica m8 doesn’t use one.
So per pixel sharpness is noticeably better than the Nikon.

The lack of autofocus in the Leica is understandable since it’s a rangfinder camera.

Image Quality: Leica wins. hands down.

Now lets see you compare the Nikon D3 to the Leica S2. hahaha.

BTW, I don’t have a Phaseone 60 megapixel back.
What I use is the p45.

And yes, I have a Leica M8.
I know it will last much longer than your Nikon toy.

Am I dreaming…?

OK I was looking at Mamiya cameras and Hasselblad just because I am just surfing and curious. And I found this–>

tell me if I am dreaming or if this is really not a good older model of the Mamiya brands.

question for photographers?

I contacted a local photography studio run by one woman only. I asked her if she is in need of an assistant and she said this to me, “I currently work on high end Canon equipment and require that of my
assistants as well. I see that you use a high end Leica and I do not work with photographers that use Leica, Hasselblad or other foregin camera models. Maybe someone else could use you or start your own business. Sorry.” Do you think her reasoning is completely bad?
I am from the East Coast in the US. I live a few hours from NY.
Canons are made in Japan and Leica is Germany. She doesn’t work with people who work with foreign camera models. Makes no sense.
I use a Leica S-System and have a Leica M8.
David, how is she a fraud for not using a Nikon? Each photographer is different. Some prefer different brands over others. I have worked with both Nikon & Canon before, but have been dissatisfied.

What’s all about these Carl-Zeiss lenses bullsh** on Phones?

I mean, even in 35mm digital slrs, the differences between lenses are hard to see unless you examine them at 100% zoom and use those charts with millimeter lines in them.

Now, those camera phones have sensors smaller than point and shoots. And point and shoots are CRAPPY!!!!
Now why would some Phone companies advertise that their phones have “Zeiss” glass?!?!?!

I know Zeiss glass is legend. I’m planning to buy some actually with a Hasselblad 503cw.

But for camera phones!?!?!

Which violin brand is the best?

Don’t include Stradivarius and other makers which don’t make violins anymore.

I want to buy a very good violin.
I want the best brand, sort of like Steinway for Pianos, BMW/Mercedes for Cars, Hasselblad for Cameras, etc.

Backstage Photography -LFW-please Help?

Hi everyone, this is the thing i am photographing backsatge at LFW for a few designers and i need some help,

well i have a film hasselblad EL/M camera as well and i i’m just wondering is it a good idea to take it as well as my slr.

Also would there be anything necessary to buy for my flash or cameras that would improve my photography, well i am going to buy a few sd cards just in case cos its a nightmare when you run out of space.

also i am buying a new omni bounce because all i have for it now is one of those stupid shower cap things from jessops, it’s done the job but just image it in a small space and it keeps on dropping on to the floor will be a nightmare.

i’m just wondering is there anything else should i should buy or take that may improve or make my photography easier

thanks alot everyone

Kai
